In today’s world, I realized that I needed to reclaim the whimsical side of myself to balance out the stresses of everyday life. The joy of coming home from work, putting on strawberry covered pajamas, pulling out one of my many hobbies, and enjoying the rainbows being thrown around my living room from the suncatcher in my window by the sunset is amazing.
I wanted to create something for myself that embraced being whimsical (the fables) and creative (the foundry). There are so many ways to create and when I discover something new, like watercolour or embroidery, I love learning all about it, from its history to its utility and techniques.
Not only do I want to learn how to create something, I want to know the myths, stories, and histories behind the craft. Did you know that one of the earliest forms of watercolour were used during the Stone Age in cave paintings? And that it was practiced all over the world as people discovered the mixture of pigment and binders? How about the history of the different watercolour pigments that have been used? These types of questions swirl through my mind. The trick is not getting stuck in the analytical research side and actually moving to the creative exploration of actually playing with the paint.
Fable & Foundry will be a curated collection of crafts, stories, and things to make your life more whimsical. It’s not about being perfect, but about immersing yourself in the enchantment of the process.
